NEW STAC COMPRESSION
WARP Speed Dial-Up Access
STAC Compression, the PPP specific compression system that provides up to 4X the speed of your normal connection, is installed on all of our terminal servers. What does this mean to you? Faster download speeds and much lower latency. Response times will be very snappy and there will be an increase in throughput. Users can get as high as 80k - 100k per second downloads.
STAC Compression is a very efficient and effective compression algorithm that speeds up transfer rates supported by our terminal servers and Windows95/98/Me's Dialup Networking. With normal V.42bit compression, your modem buffers your data into compressible chunks. This buffering increases the latency in your connection.
STAC Compression takes place at the PPP level, thus allowing your modem to send and receive data as soon as it receives it. By turning off hardware compression in your modem, you are no longer buffering each packet in the modem for a noticeable period of time. This reduction in latency is highly noticeable for online gamers.
STAC Compression works with Windows95/98/Me or any other third-party operating system that supports RFC-compliant STAC compression over PPP connections. Clients have no need for hardware to help with STAC compression.
STAC Compression also works with ISDN. In fact, many ISDN adapters and routers include STAC Compression that lets you achieve phenomenal speeds. Consider that an ISDN adapter with both lines (B Channels) connected to Internet Connect provides up to 128Kbits/sec without compression. With STAC compression it's as much as 500Kbit/sec!
Note: Currently, WindowsNT4, Windows2000 & WindowsXP do not support STAC Compression. If your ISDN adapter supports STAC directly this doesn't apply.
