Configuring Email for Netscape 4.5

This page will show you screenprints in order to walk you through setting up your email using Netscape Communicator 4.5.

Opening "Preferences" in the Edit menu

Click on the "Edit" menu in the upper lefthand corner of your browser and select "Preferences", as shown in the image below:

Setting the "Mail & Newsgroups" options

Expand the "Mail & Newsgroups" category by clicking on the plus sign to the left of the words "Mail & Newsgroups".

 

Click on "Identity" under "Mail & Newsgroups". On the right side, in the blank titled "Your name:" enter the name that you would like to appear as your name on your outgoing email . In the next blank titled "Email address:" enter your actual email address (your username plus @terranova.net), as shown in the image below.

Click on "Mail Servers" under "Mail & Newsgroups". On the right side, the first section is for the "Incoming Mail Servers". Click on the button that says Add on the right side.



This brings up a new window titled "Mail Server Properties" . In the space titled "Server Name" type mail.terranova.net. The next space, "Server Type", should already have POP3 in it. If not, please select it from the drop down box using the down arrow at the right edge of the box. In the next space, titled "User Name", please enter your username as assigned to your account with us. Next, click the checkbox labeled "Remember Password". Then click on the button marked OK and you should be back at the main preferences window.



In the blank titled "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:" enter mail.terranova.net. In the blank titled "Outgoing mail server user name:" enter your username, as shown in the image below.



Click on "Newsgroups Server" under "Mail & Newsgroups". On the right side, to the right of the blank space, click on the button labeled Add, as shown in the image below.



This brings up another window titled "Newsgroup Server Properties". In the blank titled "Server:" enter news.terranova.net. The "Port:" should be 119, as shown in the image below. Click on the "OK" button to close this window and return to the main preferences window.



You should now have your email client setup correctly. Click on the "OK" button to close the "Preferences" window.
