Configuring the Netscape 4.0x Browser

This page will show you screenprints in order to walk you through setting up your browser using Netscape Communicator 4.0x. The actual screenprints are from version 4.06, but the process is almost identical in all 4.0x versions.

Opening "Preferences" in the Edit menu

Click on the "Edit" menu in the upper lefthand corner of your browser and select "Preferences", as shown in the image below:

Setting the Home Page

The Preferences window opens on the "Navigator" category. We are going to change the "Home Page" setting. Make sure the "Home Page" radio button is selected. The default setting is "http://home.netscape.com", but you should change that to read http://www.terranova.net, as shown in the image below.

Setting the "Advanced" options

Expand the Advanced category by clicking on the plus sign to the left of the word "Advanced".

 

Click on Proxies under Advanced. On the right side, select the radio button labeled Manual proxy configuration . Click on the View button, as shown in the image below.

This opens the "Manual Proxy Configuration" window. In the HTTP: blank, type proxy.terranova.net. The Port setting should be 3128 . Copy these two entries and place them in the blanks for FTP: also, as shown in the image below.

You should now have your browser setup correctly. Click on the "OK" button to close the "Preferences" window.
