Configuring the Netscape 3.0x Browser

This page will show you screenprints in order to walk you through setting up your browser using Netscape Navigator 3.0x. The actual screenprints are from version 3.04, but the process is almost identical in all 3.0x versions.

Opening "General Preferences" in the Options menu

Click on the "Options" menu in the upper lefthand corner of your browser and select "General Preferences", as shown in the image below:

Setting the Home Page

The General Preferences window opens on the "Appearance" category. We are going to change the Home Page setting. Make sure the "Home Page Location" radio button is selected in the section labled Startup. The default setting is "http://home.netscape.com", but you should change that to read http://www.terranova.net, as shown in the image below.

You should now have your home page setup correctly. Click on the "OK" button to close the "General Preferences" window.

Setting the "Network" options

Click on the "Options" menu in the upper lefthand corner of your browser and select "Network Preferences", as shown in the image below:

Click on tab labeled Proxies at the top of that window. Select the radio button labeled Manual Proxy Configuration. Click on the View button, as shown in the image below.

This opens the "Manual Proxy Configuration" window. In the FTP: blank, type proxy.terranova.net. The Port setting should be 3128 . Copy these two entries and place them in the blanks for HTTP: also, as shown in the image below.

You should now have your browser setup correctly. Click on the "OK" button to close the "Manual Proxy Configuration" window. Then, click on the "OK" button to close the "Network Preferences" window.
