Configuring the Internet Explorer 4.0x Browser

This page will show you screenprints in order to walk you through setting up your browser using Internet Explorer 4.0x. The actual screenprints are from version 4.01, but the process is almost identical in all 4.0x versions.

Opening "Internet Options" in the View menu

Click on the "View" menu in the upper lefthand corner of your browser and select "Internet Options", as shown in the image below:

Setting the Home Page

The Internet Options window opens on the "General" tab. We are going to change the "Home Page" setting. The default setting is "http://home.microsoft.com", but you should change that to read http://www.terranova.net, as shown in the image below.

Setting the "Connection" options

Click on the Connection tab at the top of the Internet Options window. This switches the view to the Connection options.

Choosing the Connection Method

Select the radio button for Connect to the Internet using a modem in the section titled Connection. Over to the right, click on the button labeled Settings, as shown in the image below.

Make sure that TerraNovaNet is selected as the Dial-Up Networking connection:. Also make sure that it has your correct Username and Password, as shown in the image below.

Click on the OK button to close this window and return to the Connection tab of Internet Options.

Setting the Proxy Server Options

In the section titled Proxy server click on the check box labeled Access the Internet using a proxy server. Over to the right, click on the button labeled Advanced, as shown in the image below.

This opens the "Proxy Settings" window. In the HTTP: blank, type proxy.terranova.net. The Port setting should be 3128 . Click on the check box labeled Use the same proxy server for all protocols and it will fill in the rest of them for you, as shown in the image below.

Click on the OK button to close this window.

You should now have your browser setup correctly. Click on the Apply button to save the changes we made, then click on the OK button to close the "Internet Options" window.
